Our story

Four decades of
green flags.

Kart Kountry has been the region's go-to spot for family fun since 1980. Still family owned, still built for every age and every budget, and still home to the one thing no one else can put on a sign.

The one true claim

Thunder Road.
The world's
largest track.

Plenty of places have a go-kart track. We have the go-kart track. Thunder Road runs a full 1.5 miles, and it has been drawing families off the highway for over forty years.

Long straights, sweeping turns, and five kinds of karts, from the family Double-Seaters to the 28 mph Thunderbolts. It is the reason a quick stop turns into an afternoon.

The long way around

How the yard grew

One attraction at a time, added over the years so a single stop became a whole day out.

  1. 1980: The track opens

A local go-kart spot opens in Shepherdsville and quickly earns a reputation for a track you have to see to believe.

  2. More ways to play

Two miniature golf courses, batting cages and seasonal bumper boats join the karts, turning a single ride into a full afternoon.

  3. A huge arcade

The arcade gives the day an indoor half, so rain or shine there is always something to do.

  4. Today: a Kentucky landmark

Same family, same track. A destination for birthday parties, tourists, and groups of ten to a thousand.

What we are about

Made for everybody

Every budget

Free admission, then pay by the ticket. Buy one ride or a book of six, no membership, no pressure. Military discount with valid ID.

A parent can plan around it

Clear hours, clear rules, free parking and enough variety that every kid finds their thing. The kind of place you can commit to without a backup plan.

Local and family run

Not a national chain dropping a template into town. A beloved local landmark that has answered to the same family and the same community for over forty years.

Open-air summers

Checkered flags and Kentucky sunshine. Fresh air, real space, and the smell of the track.

Employment

Work where the fun is

Seasonal and year-round roles across the track, courses, cages, arcade and front desk. A first job, a summer job, or a spot on a team that has been running since 1980.
